Rumors have been floating for some time and now it’s been confirmed: The new MoonSwatch “Mission to the Moonphase” will be released on March 26th, 2024. White seems to be having a moment in the watch world; it was only two weeks ago that Omega released a new Speedmaster in white. This time, however, it’s not just a white dial hitting the scene, but an entirely white watch.
Let’s take a closer look at what’s coming our way.
Moon Play
As its name suggests, the newest addition to the Omega x Swatch project is oriented toward Earth’s lunar body and its phases. The entire chronograph shines in white, bar a few key contrasting black accents like the subdial hands and indices and tachymeter scale on the bezel.
The special feature of this model is without question the moon phase complication, which you can find in the subdial at 2 o’clock. As the moon phase disc makes its rounds, you can catch glimpses of Snoopy dozing away peacefully on a crescent moon.
The dial features the Omega x Swatch branding as well as the Speedmaster and MoonSwatch logos from the previous MoonSwatch missions. The watch is outfitted with a biosourced crystal complete with an “S” etched into the center, an elegant dial surround, and recessed subdials like its siblings. It also boasts Speedmaster-typical twisted lugs and the iconic “dot over 90” tachymeter scale. The indices, hour and minute hands, and the tip of the second hand are dipped in Grade A Super-LumiNova®, ensuring legibility in the dark.
As in the previous collaborations, the case, crown, and chronograph push-pieces are crafted from Swatch’s proprietary Bioceramic. This material is celebrated for its lightness, durability, and wearing comfort. The watch comes mounted on a VELCRO© strap.
Why Snoopy?
I think the better question is why not Snoopy? Snoopy is an innocuous comic character who reminds us of those carefree childhood days of yesteryear.
All joking aside, Snoopy has been NASA’s official mascot since the 1960s, and the Silver Snoopy Award is considered the US space agency’s highest honor. In 1970, Omega received the award for the vital role the Speedmaster played in the history of space exploration.
Snoopy’s presence on the moon disc is a playful nod to this shared history.
Secret Message
Another novel addition is a secret message that only becomes visible under UV light. Also located on the moon phase disc, you’ll find a quote from the Peanuts comic, “I can’t sleep without a night light!” nestled between the crescent moons and stars and shining in bright blue.
The latest addition to the Omega x Swatch line will be available starting March 26th, 2024 for $310.
